Here in Portland, Oregon's mild Maritime climate we are lucky to get a few flurries each year and every 5 years a few inches of snow that melts in 24 hours or turns into a sheet of ice for a day. 

This year however, already 3 significant snowstorms have left several inches of snow each time. And last week the city was an skating rink with every surface covered with ice for 3 days. Plants were like gorgeous glass globes but it was also incredibly treacherous even walk out the door. 

In the past 24 hours we've had more than 12' of snow and I've never seen anything like it here so I just had to share a few photos. I'm sure this kind of thing is old hat to those of you in the northern regions of the country, but everyone here is delighted myself included. 



The park across the street has been a sledding and snow-fort building festival for the neighborhood and I've heard the constant squeals of sledders all day.

My studio is on a super busy street with 2 lanes of traffic flowing like a river non-stop 18 hours a day. Dead quiet today and mostly the streets have been populated with cross country skiiers.

Lucy and I had to walk in the streets because the snow is as tall as she is.
