They put out a spreadsheet each week of the weekend ranked tournament results which, on a separate note, I find kind of odd that they use a google sheet instead of a nice looking presentation on their website. In any case, you can find it here: http://bit.ly/WK_20

You can see that for the most recent weekend they had 784 players which is where I suspect that number comes from. It's also not really surprising to me. I would be much more surprised if they somehow managed to get a lot more players than that, and I'm very interested to see what they do with their $15M investment to try to get more people involved.

The reality is that there just are not very many people in the entire world that *use* blockchains or cryptocurrency for anything other than speculation or trading. And that's also not very surprising, since blockchain/crypto things are much more difficult to use and provide much worse user experiences than traditional products - GU is no exception to that.

This is an area where Steem has a HUGE advantage that has just been utterly and completely squandered so far. The longer it goes the higher the chance someone will come along and copy what's good about Steem and execute better and then Steem will die off as the Friendster to their Facebook.
