<p>A few years ago, whilst I was still in uni, a few friends and I decided to enter into an agreement. The five of us decided to write letters to one another. The catch was that all the letters would be locked up in a box for five years, at which time we would all get together again and open the box to read what we had to say to one another five years ago. Interestingly, two of these people later got married. So it would have been fascinating to read what they had to say to each other back then. </p>

<p>Unfortunately, several of us moved interstate after writing the letters, so we never got to Actually open them. But I&#8217;ve often wondered, what did my friends write in these letters? </p>

<p>The reason I bring this up is that I&#8217;ve been thinking about what Steem would be like in five years time. With all the recently proposed changes and new features to be rolled out by @ned and @dantheman over the next few months, I&#8217;m excited about the future of Steem.</p>

<h3>Could Steem live up to its potential and be the next big thing?</h3>

<p>Here are my predictions for Steem in five years time:</p>

<ul>
<li>The price of Steem will have risen from a low of $0.04 in early 2017 to a high of $43 in 2020.</li>
<li>Large companies and organizations will take significant positions in Steem, and will have a big presence on Steemit and related Steem projects.</li>
<li>Active users on Steem will be in the tens of millions.</li>
<li>Thousands of projects using the Steem blockchain will be developed, with many of them disrupting industries such as; remittances, travel/accommodation, stock exchanges, banking/finance, online marketing, and social media.</li>
<li>Millionaires will be made from those who were early adopters and held on to their investment.</li>
</ul>
