![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmeHSc6CNE2DZtNBTMq6Sq28m7Cn2waBXtBMGjv3RZdRQc/image.png) <div class= text-justify> Whenever we step out of our homes, we are bombarded with thousands of choices that require us to make decisions. Even a mundane thing like grabbing a cup of coffee on your way to work can turn into a dilemma. The barista's job is to give you as many choices as possible so you feel you are in control of what you are buying; 'Do you want a small, medium or large?' 'Would you like whole/skimmed/semi-skimmed or soy milk?' 'Would you like extra flavours such as caramel, chocolate, vanilla, whip cream?' and finally, 'How about something with your coffee? Maybe a muffin, a croissant, a sandwich, a brownie etc?'</div> ![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmNRWZL9FNDFEfzgTWw6gcdmGTkxNM5q3wvVwYZdB9efVy/image.png) <div class= text-justify>Throughout your whole day, you are presented with choices from the food you buy for lunch, your trip to the supermarket, shopping at the mall, reading the menu in a restaurant, or even what show to watch on TV. Having endless choices is a first world problem, and in addition to wasting a great deal of time deciding, people develop anxieties because they just can't decide. A great example of this is when people watch TV; they just flick through the channels because they can't decide which channel to choose out of the hundreds they have. The same thing is true for relationships. People in this day and age can't commit to a person because they are constantly thinking there is a better person out there. So they believe by being in a relationship, they will miss out on the opportunity to be with a 'better' partner.</div> ![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmYysVbLp4UD7aQ3i4vQbYrDzXDjSHpS62TQe1L7qFnNQs/image.png) <div class= text-justify>The biggest reason why choices are problematic is that it's self-created problem. How? It comes down to want and need. When we need something, the process of choosing is eliminated right away because we choose exactly what is needed. There is no room to contemplate, hesitate, waste time, change our minds etc. However, when it's about wanting something, then we allow ourselves to be controlled by the options available. Let me give you an example.</center> ![](https://steemitimages.com/DQma8mpJeNAG85F3HGX8ctdntVm4Jy62eG49y4EubyRNuqq/image.png) <div class= text-justify>Suppose there is a child in the third world who doesn't have any shoes. As soon as you present him with a pair, he/she quickly and gratefully takes them because they NEED shoes. In other words, it doesn't matter what kind of shoes you offer him/her, the colour, the style or the brand. On the other hand, you have a child or an adult in the more developed countries who goes into a shoe shop (not because they don't have at least 5 other pairs) but because they want a new pair or a new model. So they go to a shop, and are presented with countless shoes of every colour, style, brand and price range. And the only limitation they have is their budget. So even though the initial idea was for fun (many people enjoy shopping for the sake of it), it actually becomes a task to choose and they eventually become slaves to these choices even though they are free to choose!</div> ### What do you think about having too many choices? Do you think it's a blessing or a curse? ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Image source:[1](https://s-i.huffpost.com/gen/3373288/images/o-FOOD-LABELS-facebook.jpg),[2](https://alvinwkim.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/facebook-37.jpg),[3](https://28oa9i1t08037ue3m1l0i861-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/lineup.png),[4](https://s3-media1.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/UIoDtZCFUdxbG9z5Acrm1g/o.jpg) _____________________________________________________________________________________________ ![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmQR9oynn4DUDb3BbATG2ZiiSzitHSLNWZgVG3LZmKuohJ/image.png) <center>***Designed by the talented @dandesign86***</center> ______________________________________________________________________________________________ <center>![nomad signature .gif](https://steemitimages.com/DQmQmT1GnhsyQiV3h5CxTqm2dg5Z46ex9UKk1B6465FaBgh/nomad%20signature%20.gif)</center>

I think some restrictions are necessary, choice is really a seesaw. If there are too little space for choices we feel like we are suffocating. With too many choices we get over oxygenated and even though we can do whatever we want to we don't feel Motivated to do so

I agree.I think balance is the healthiest options. There's nothing wrong with having choices, but it should be to make our lives easier, not harder.

I think the problem is not so much because of the abundance of choices. But because of our tendency to make our choices from a space of feeling unfulfilled. If you are looking at stuff and want something new because you feel dissatisfied, you will always be disappointed. Find what satisfies you, what fulfills you, and you can make a million stress free decisions if you need to. Is my opinion and experience :). What do you think?

That's a great point. We are overwhelmed by empty choices to distract people from what they are really missing. So they fill their lives with material things, but the emptiness is a bottomless hole and like you mentioned, it can never be filled because it's not filling the unconditional fulfilment they are lacking.
