Storm Breaks - Went For a Quick Mushroom Hunt 🌦️🍄 part 3

As we continued our [*mushroom hunt*]( https://steemit.com/photography/@nv21089/storm-breaks--went-for-a-quick-mushroom-hunt--part-2-dq9tk8u1), my girlfriend and I stumbled upon this small groups of 2 - 3 mushrooms growing together from the same spot, near a fallen pine tree.

The similarity between mushrooms of different species is a serious problem for those trying to identify.

Misidentification can end in disaster if the mushroom enters the plate and stomach.

Professional definition of mushroom species must be done by microscopic examination of *spores* and *tissues*, but most of the amateurs in Israel don't do so, compared to our friends in Europe who are equipped with microscopes, chemicals, and specific reference books.

We had a difficult time to decide if this is
Psathyrella candolleana or Coprinus atramentarius because of their similarity.

Both grow in groups, light brown and black colored.

Many appear in gardens, at the feet of weak or dead trees, and sometimes over a stump buried beneath the ground.

So what is the difference?

Coprinus atramentarius darkens greatly with aging and dissolves until the creation of 'ink'.

The Psathyrella candolleana remains brown in color and crumbles easily with aging.

Therefore, if we meet a young group - we will visit again after a day or two and we'll know. 😀
