More of the icy stuff, with some advice at no extra cost

Winter isn't returning to The Netherlands yet; outside it is gray, and there is little light as the cloud cover seems to have descended to tree-top level.

In short, it is dreary, damp weather and nowhere near wintery enough for my taste. So, back to some more old photos with frost and ice and snow to reflect on while I avoid looking out of the window.

An ice cave with a mushroom (well, just a hollow tree stump, actually):

This happens to ice when the water level drops in the peat bog:

And now, a top tip for the inexperienced who insist on going ice skating. This is what a beginning crack looks like:

Such cracks can develop very suddenly, and they sound like tearing linen. You should get off the ice when this happens. Really.

Thirty seconds later, the crack looked like this:
