Original Oil painting on canvas: House on the St Lawrence

This is a 12 x 16 oil painting on canvas I made near Quebec City. 

My ancestors arrived here in Canada many years ago so I travel back to Quebec and paint along the shore of the St Lawrence.

This is painted out doors where the weather changes quickly so I paint very fast  to capture the light and colours of the moment. 

I use brushes and lots of thick oil paint and I am trying to reduce my palette to 5-6 colours so that I don't have to carry as much stuff everywhere I go.

With oil it takes many weeks to dry so I can make adjustments and clean up the edges when I get back home. The trickiest thing is to not smudge all the paint .. that has happened. Those ones become great abstract paintings.
