Yesterday I posted the first part of this list

Place 4: The Beast of Gevaudan

More than 100 people are said to be the victim of this animal, between 1764 and 1767. But there aren't exact numbers. A few victims survived, partially seriously injured! Most of the victims are children, young people and women. Almost all of them have worked as shepherds. And animals attract predators. Most people thought that this monster is a werewolf. The rumor of it lasted for a long time. Meanwhile it is assumed that it is the crossing of a Great Dane and a wolf. This could explain why this animal had the strength to abduct adults. But we are still waiting for a final clarification today.

Drawings from 1765 looked like this:

Place 3: New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devil is to be a mixed creature. The description alone will give you a fright. This creature is about 1.50 meters tall. It goes on 2 legs whose feet consist of hooves. Short arms, wings and a long neck are further characteristics of this being. When sighting this "devil", the people heared a sinister, high cry. One fact is very scary: These beings have been sighted over a very long period of time. Most sightings were made in 1909 at Woodbury. The last known sighting was in 2008. There aren't photoso of New Jersey Devils. There is no final explanation for what this being is. Many testimonies are contradictory.

Place 2: The Oni

The journey continues in search of mysterious creatures and we end up in Japan. The Oni is not just one being. They are different characters from Japanese mythology. There are many different characters, shapes and colors. But most of them are supposed to have a human-like form. But they all have a common feature. They wear tiger skins as clothes and are armed with iron bats. Sightings are unknown up to the present day, which makes the existence highly doubtful. But in Japan the belief in these beings is very high. For no matter how ugly these creatures are, according to the myths they have a good property. They are to drive out evil spirits! But as they look, that is no wonder.

Place 1: The Basilisk

The Basilisk really deserved the first place. This creature was interesting for mankind since ancient times. The description of this mythical animal has been constantly changing over the centuries. Main features of this creature were the mixture of a cock and a snake. The serpent formed the abdomen while the cock represents the upper body. And to perfect the Basilisk, one putted a crown on its head. In the different variants, there were also records with a human head, wings and sometimes several legs from the cock. According to the legend, the Basilisk was able to petrify or even kill killing creatures only with his look. But the Basilisk would have been deadly with sunglases too: His breath was poisonous. To date, there are no finds from this animal or remnants, suggesting the existence of the Basilisk.
