Interestingly, I found on the Internet here is a photo taken from almost the same place in the early twentieth century. And for me it is very exciting when you have the opportunity to see what was in familiar places many, many years ago.

A little bit about the temple. 

The Church was built from 1859 to 1871 and consecrated in honor of David of Gareji 
It is a sacred place for believers. David of Gareja was one of the 13 missionary monks who in the 6th century were engaged in the spread of Christianity in Georgia.

The source of water, spurting from the mountain near the Church, is considered healing, helping from infertility. 

The necropolis existing at Church since 1929 (official opening) is declared by the Pantheon "Mtatsminda".
This is a Pantheon of writers and public figures – an amazing place with which to study history. Here was buried in 1829, Alexander Sergeyevich Griboyedov, who then served as Russia's envoy to Tehran.

*Церковь строилась с 1859 по 1871 год и освящена в честь Давида Гареджийского 
Для верующих – это священное место. Давид Гареджийский – это один из 13 монахов-миссионеров, в 6-ом веке занимавшихся распространением христианства в Грузии.*

*Источник воды, бьющий из горы у церкви, считается целебным, помогающим от бесплодия.* 

*Существующий у церкви некрополь с 1929 года (официальное открытие) объявлен пантеоном «Мтацминда».
Это пантеон писателей и общественных деятелей – удивительное место, с помощью которого можно изучать историю. Здесь был погребен в 1829 г. Александр Сергеевич Грибоедов, выполнявший тогда функции посланника России в Тегеране.*
