Auction Find - 1920's Steampunk Remington Typewriter

<p><strong>Below I have shared </strong><em><strong>many </strong></em><strong>photos of this rather delicious 1920's typewriter. I simply love all the cogs and levers, there are so many I wonder how they could possibly be used in unison! The typewriter is not in working condition, I think? (Except maybe as a murder weapon, it weighs about 20kg!) The keys are very sticky. Most people buy them for decor now anyway. This one was easy to date as is is a Model 11.<p><a href="http://typewriterdatabase.com/remington.42.typewriter-serial-number-database#sm_01">Serial numbers</a> can also be used to date typewriters.</strong></p>

<p><strong>As I said in the beginning, I love the very many working parts, and I also really like the wooden space bar. I haven't seen one like that before. I listed this one for sale at a starting price of R950 ($80) as postage costs will be expensive and it is not serviced.</strong></p>

Nice find! I'm just barely old enough to remember when typewriters were used in most offices just before computers began taking over. My dad had a typewriter at home and I'm not quite sure what happened to it...I don't remember seeing that typewriter we had since I was about 10 years old (I was born in 1979). It's incredible how quickly technology becomes outdated and then eventually achieves "antique" status. Seems like the rate of growth and innovation is increasing at an exponential rate nowadays.

I get them fairly regularly. I think this one must have been standing in a very dusty garage because it was filthy! The computer age started in the 1980's, and by the mid 1990's, most typewriters weren't in use anymore. We got so many in our secondhand shop, and we couldn't give them away in the early 2000's, but now they are desirable again, like vinyl.

I would definitely add that to my wish list...along with a circa 1920 Swinger sewing machine. There's something about the machinery. They were made to last through the ages.
