<html> <p>Today I will drink something unusual for a man of my age. Not only the movies tell you that Sherry is something old English Lady's drink but even some bartenders have told me that when I ordered some. Not in a disrespectful way of course but in a more or less funny way. But today I'm at home and no one will comment on me drinking Sherry except for me. That's what this post is all about: Commenting on me drinking Sherry, telling you a story about Osborne Sherry and sharing some images with you. </p> <p>Heute werde ich wieder etwas trinken was für einen Mann meines Alters eher unüblich erscheint. Nicht nur Filme bringen einem bei, dass Sherry von alten Englischen Damen getrunken wird, auch manche Kellner sagen einem dies, wenn man bei ihnen Sherry bestellt. Natürlich nicht auf eine respektlose Art und Weise, da sie geschult darin sind Kunden nicht zu vergraulen, sondern zu erheitern, aber ich kenne kein anderes Getränke, welches diese Reaktionen hervorruft. Doch heute bin ich zu Hause und niemand wird mein Sherry-Trinken kommentieren außer mir. At first he was storing his products in the bodegas of James Duff but later he became a partner in the Duff Gordon Company and his heirs came to own the company in 1872. After 1872 the products where sold under the name of Osborne in Spain and under Duff Gordon in England but Duff Gordon was dissolved in 1890. Although Sherry isn't the main business for Osborne anymore it is an important brand and one of the oldest companies related to wine in Spain. The famous logo of Osborne is a bull and it is not only printed on the bottles but physically represented in most parts of Spain. You can see this giant metal bulls at 90 different places but because of a law from 1988 against billboards the name Osborne is removed from them. Zunächst wurden seine Produkte in den Weinkellern der Duff Gordon Company gelagert und seine Erben übernahmen dieses Unternehmen selbst im Jahr 1872. Nach diesem Jahr wurden die Produkte unter dem Namen Osborne in Spanien und Duff Gordon in England verkauft. Auch wenn 1890 Duff Gordon aufgelöst wurde trugen dennoch manche Produkte der Firma diesen Namen bis in die jüngste Vergangenheit. Heute ist Sherry nicht mehr das Hauptgeschäft von Osborne, aber als eines der ältesten Weinunternehmen Spaniens steht der Name für Tradition. Das berühmte Stierlogo findet sich nicht nur auf die Flaschen gedruckt, sondern auch an den unterschiedlichsten Orten Spaniens als Werbetafeln aufgestellt. Durch ein Anti-Werbetafel-Gesetz von 1988 musste jedoch der Schriftzug entfernt werden.
