Plants and nitrogen-fixing bacteria
Hi, friends of Steemians, today I bring you a topic about plants and nitrogen-fixing bacteria. It is important to know the nitrogen cycle and how is the fixation process in the soil.

Plants for their development and growth, need the availability of a series of macronutrients and micronutrients available in the soil, among them the most important is nitrogen. Nitrogen influences the good development of the plant, and also its leaves have a bright green color. If there is a lack of nitrogen we will observe the weak plants and the small yellowish leaves.

The availability of nitrogen in the soil is important, since it will favor microbial activity, and in turn will facilitate the availability of nutrients for plants. Nitrogen is found in the atmosphere and is fixed in the soil through some plants, bacteria and fungi which have the ability to convert nitrogen from the air into material available to plants; as an example are the grasses and legumes.

<h2>Nitrogen fixing plants and microorganisms</h2>
<strong><em>Nitrogen fixing plants</em></strong>:
There is a large number of plants that help improve the quality and fertility of the soil in a natural way, by the capacity they have to fix nitrogen, such as those belonging to the families of beans and peas (the Fabaceas or legumes). Among the nitrogen fixing plants we can name the following: Acacia, clover, pea, beans, alfalfa, sorghum, oats, barley, corn, lentils, chickpeas, lupins, mosses, ferns, in general the grasses and legumes.

Nitrogen-fixing bacteria produce enzymes that take nitrogen in its gaseous form from the atmosphere, then with the sugars they obtain from the plant they process the nitrogen and fix it inside the bacterial biomass. This nitrogen passes to the plant, who absorbs it through its roots. The nitrogen passes to the ground when the plant dies.

Organisms capable of fixing nitrogen are known as diazotrophs. This is a process that consumes a lot of energy that occurs with the mediation of the nitrogenase enzyme.

<strong><em>Recommendations for the use of nitrogen fixing plants</em></strong>:

Nitrogen fixation enriches, preserves and restores the fertility of soils, thus reducing the application of chemical fertilizers, which is why it is important to use nitrogen-fixing plants.
<ul>
 <li>We can make associations of crops, an example would be corn with beans, and so they can do in other crops.</li>
 <li>After cutting the brush, it is advisable to spread it on the ground, this helps to nourish the soil.</li>
 <li>It is advisable to use composting substrates, to incorporate bacteria to the soil that will help nitrogen fixation.</li>
</ul>
