Work-life balance has always been an issue. Going back in history, we find that many people worked long and punishing hours. Look around the world and you'll find the same lack of balance in many people's lives. So, what balance should we have? What does the term mean anyways?

#### Work-life balance does not necessarily mean an equal balance.
Make no mistake, the term doesn't mean an equal amount of time between work and other life stuff. Scheduling an equal amount of hours each for your various work and personal activities is unrealistic and most likely wouldn't get important things done. Life should be a bit more fluid than that.

#### There are no perfect, one-size fits all, balance you should be striving for.
Work-life balance varies among individuals because we all have different ways of working, as well as different priorities and different lives. Hence, one can never find the perfect work-life balance for the bulk of humans. You have to find what works for you and stick to it.

#### Even your best individual work-life balance can vary over time and circumstances.
Times change and it's possible that the best work-life balance for you today won't work tomorrow or the next, or in a year's time. Your work-life balance must adapt to changes around you. Your work-life balance as a single person will not be the same when you get married or become aged.

Achievement and enjoyment are the front and back of the coin of value in life. You cannot have one without the other, no more than you can have a coin with just a side. You cannot live in abundance if you do not give in ample time to work. Also, it's unwise to slave out the rest of your life without spending time with the things you love and the people you care about. Trying to live a one-sided life is one of the reasons why a lot of successful people are not as happy as they should be.
