NEW VOLUNTEER PLANTS IN THE GARDEN

Since we live in the middle of nowhere, I'm not always interested in running to town right away if I need something. With a little thinking and some creativity, we can often find a worthy solution right here at home. This was one such case.

After transplanting tons of volunteer plants from our old garden site down to the new one, we've had a few volunteers sprouting up down there anyway. Before this site was a garden, it was raw woods that we ran some pigs and goats through to clear it out. During that time, we were not composting and instead fed our kitchen scraps to the hogs, which lead to a variety of seeds being dispersed on the property.

The main one in the video was a cucumber plant, but a couple Ground Cherry plants also volunteered to show up. This is good, because although I wanted a few this year, I did not plant any. Whenever possible, I like to allow volunteer plants to grow and increase our harvest. How about you?

Volunteer plants are great.

Especially when they volunteer in and thrive in "less than ideal locations".  This can show how hardy and well suited they are.  Perfect for choosing as plants to save seed from!

Volunteers!  I love it when the do the hard work and we can just observe and harvest.  This happens to us more with the reforestation, certain pioneer species like *celcropia peltata* or *Bocconia frutescens* and others just come in and want to help with the reforestation too!

The funny thing is, most pioneers are medicinal, healing the land and with healing properties for us as well.

I love volunteer plants. Free plants are always welcome in my garden. I love taking a tour of the garden early in the growing season to see what surprises I may have growing. Sometimes it is a plant that I didn't have before as some bird dropped the seeds.

I love volunteer plants! I get tomatoes every year that come back and I also have a cucumber and a melon growing as well that I did not plant.
As for the ground cherries...I never knew about them until a couple of weeks ago. Had a friend share some with me, they were good enough that I am going to try to grow my own next year!
