As charity workers we get one short break a year and whenever we can, we travel to a dear friend's farm. But of course this is no ordinary farm. After her recovery from the dreaded Leukemia illness, our friend has slowly but surely converted the farm into a true paradise.

Beautiful isn't it?

Let me share a short story with you please; The lady that owns this was until a few years ago a happy and wealthy business woman and her entire life was carefully planned! But then, some time before her retirement the unexpected happened! She was holidaying in Cuba and upon her return she didn't feel well. Dread! She was diagnosed with aggressive Leukemia and told that she would have 3 months to live!

Imagine what such a death sentence does to your mind, your health and your life?
But of course this lady is not of the ordinary kind and she recovered from a near death experience! I'll never forget how close to death she was when we were called to go and pray at her bedside! Eureka, she pulled through!
She was placed on an intense Chemo treatment program and a few days ago she called me to tell me that she had now completed the last Chemo maintenance treatment after her original Chemo treatment. This is now 4 years after her first diagnosis and she is now totally recovered!

Her entire life was turned upside down, but this did not get her down. She resigned from a major corporation, went to the farm and started to work and support the charities in the area! She also travels to hospitals where she speaks to people with cancer in an effort to help them cope and to bring them hope. Added to this she supports cancer funds and even participates in national fundraisers for said cancer funds. Mostly on long distance cycle trips organized by the cancer funds!

She appreciates her "second chance" and decided to follow her heart, as she is now doing what she loves and what she always wanted to do. And she does it with abandon and joy! Trapped most of her life in the corporate business world, an unplanned and totally unexpected event in her life brought her to reason.
Now she is happy and bubbling over with joy, saying every time that we meet that she should have done this years ago!

So many have come to me saying that one day they want to do what we do! Like they will live forever? I think we are the only frail beings that go about our daily lives' like there is no end! And this end can appear at any time in our lives'.
I have a few questions for ya! First off not many are going to read tis entire scribe, but for all those that do!
Has this life and its demands trapped you? Has it taught you to set your expectations as high as the sky?
If you are too busy, are you supporting those that work with the destitute for a share in their credits?
Are you following your heart? Or as they say; Do you love what you do?
Life is short and tomorrow is not guaranteed!
Think about it!

Absolutely true Lady Joan! We call it a wake-up! She is doing so much good now and today notified me that I must not forget to go and bless the cancer cycle fundraiser that they tackle every year from Johannesburg to Cape Town! It starts on the 1st of March and they visit cancer sufferers in every town's hospital that they pass along the way! Blessings Stephen!

Thank you Sir Steve! I first have to have a serious operation, set for 26 February, to unblock an artery that feeds my right brain. Then if it is successful, we will go down for a week to re-energize, recuperate, relax and hopefully have some time for ourselves!
