I found this little guy this morning and he was in a terrible state!

The first lesson from nature!

This is a baby Mousebird that landed firstly on the fruit tray, but he couldn't eat and then he fell into a hole. He must have spent a terrible night in the cold and I think the parents abandoned him, as they normally kick weaklings out.

As you can see, he was in a bad state!

So we cleaned him up and I struggled to feed him small pieces of Paw Paw that Marian cut for me!

We placed him on a soft cloth near the heater, but he didn't make it! What a beautiful little bird. We will bury him tomorrow!

Lesson two!

You remember Emmy? The one that we kept for 3 months, as she couldn't fly after flying into an electric fence!

One day Emmy miraculously just took off and she flew away. We haven't seen her again until today.

She waited for me early this morning and as I opened the door, there she was! Sitting on my little coffee table on the verandah. Marian was so happy to see her and she ran out to place Emmy's tray with food in the normal place.

Emmy visited for the morning and then she took off flying perfectly and naturally!
She was in the company of another pigeon and I think there's a romance brewing!
What a delight to see her healthy and flying!

So what's the two lessons here?
Well, the old adage; "You win some and you lose some" is so true!
Some of us win more and others lose more and yet it all balances out at the end. Some call it luck and bad luck, others call it yin and yang, and we have many names for it, but nature teaches that "your time is your time"!
Life is not a toss of a coin, as life is filled with lessons.

Many of us continue to make the same mistakes albeit in different forms and the circle of bad decisions continue relentlessly until we confront our perceived weaknesses and stop repeating them. Some call this the losers mentality, yet all of us have one or another mistake, be it hereditary or an adopted way of thinking.
The ancient secret is to confront, admit and embrace our mistakes and to turn them into strengths!
How? I hear you say. In a next post I will tell you how!

Sorry the little one did not make it, yes some we win, some we lose. Hand raising little ones I found original ProNutro mixed with water the best, until I could establish what baby I had in hand. You knew what you had, did the best you could, some I have had literally "out of the shell" not knowing what to do next.

What a joy when one returns (Drongo, Mossie, Pearl Eye, Doves) the only one that ever returned with young, flew into the house to greet and left, was a Mossie _(Cape Sparrow)_, will write a full story of the joys raising wild birds, knowing they are not yours to keep.

I agree Lady Joan, we had Emmy now and little Jacko (mousebird), but no others returned and we lost more than we gained. But this is life and we do what we can. ProNutro is very good, but I also want to try Marian's new porridge called Future Life, as she drops her left overs for the birds and they all eat it. Even a Jacky Hanger (Fiscal Shrike) that's supposed to be a strict meat eater eats it and the Loeries! Blessings! @joanstewart
