To imagine a world without morals
Is to imagine the sea-beds without corrals

Society becomes ravaged by a thousand evil spirits.
In today's contemporary world in which we live, does it make any sense to engage in any form of moral discussion, to talk of good or bad, right or wrong? What is morality or in traditional street slang [# "who morality epp?"](5) Is it fashionable to be moral, to live by some sort of moralcode or is morality obsolete and outmoded? So why morality, or better still, why not morality? in philosophy any talk of morality falls under the purview of a branch known as ethics or moralphilosophth is all these and more that we will attempt to unravel.
# What is Morality?

The word morality is culled from the Greek word mores and could be defined as the customs or manners of any given society. As such morality can be described as a people's guide to behavior conduct. it is a culture's collective explanation of its moralsenseor moralinsight and what it prescribes as right or wrong, good or bad, acceptable or unacceptable. And down through the ages, philosophers from Plato, Aristotle, the Stoics down to Hume and beyond, have pondered on what makes an action right and another wrong, or what makes an action right in one circumstance or situation and wrong in another situation. Although we should state here the ancient Greek philosophers were more interested in what makes a person good or upright, that is character or virtue, it is with Contemporary Western philosophy, that there was a shift from Virtue to actions.
Some scholars attempt to make a distinction between Morality and Ethics; they see morality as the sum total of an individual's or society's value system, while Ethicsor MoralPhilosophyis the study and rigorous examination and evaluation of these systems to proffer sound ethical standards. Let's spare a thought or two on moral philosophy, its branches and some core moral issues. Morality could be divided into two.
* (i.)Traditional or CustomaryMorality,the morality of our social groups and cultures and
* (ii.)ReflectiveMorality,this is the tools of philosophy being applied to the moral teachings of customary morality.
# What' is Moral Philosophy?

Ethics is often regarded as a sub-branch of Axioiogy (the branch of philosophy that deals with the study of value Aestheticsor the theory of beauty, is the other sub-branch)" IS the English equivalent of the Latin word Ethikaor Ethos which means custom, habit or character. it is the study of our concept of right and wrong and philosophers usually prescribe a 3-way approach to its study and this is Meta-ethics, Normativeethics and Appliedethics. Meta-Ethics involves the analysis and clarification of the terms used in moral discourse and the nature of such discourse. it is the inquiry into the foundation or origin and meaning of ethical theories and principles, it raises such questions as what is ethics or morality, βare they social inventions. do they involve more than expressions of our individual emotions?β attempted answers usually hovers around the postulation of any of the numerous ethical theories that abound. Normative Ethics is the practical arm of Ethics and it concerns itself with the ideal moral standard to use when confronted with moral issues. One way to achieves this is by prescribing the best form of conduct by examining the consequences of any given action.
