I am having the same problem and have considered turning my Discord account to only allow messages from friends.   A very useful feature that not many use but it does make things difficult at times as you can't continue conversations you have started unless you get a mutual friendship going.

Sadly there are a lot of accounts out there i would consider of the spamming kind with a high reputation too...

Same problem here as a curie curator. Lots of DMs asking too look at posts and consider for curie upvotes. I've also considered what themarkymark said and only allowing DMs from friends, but there are a lot of contacts on there that I haven't friended that I may well want to converse with at some point.

I absolutely I understand this feeling. I have just 900 sp and the number of private messages I get from Facebook, WhatsApp and discord users is just crazy.  Now I'm wondering, if I get this type of disturbance for 900 sp, what will happen when I hit 5000 sp?

Well the problem is not the constant messages from different people, the problem is that most good people with good contents don't  like spamming because they don't spam, they end up   getting  ignored and go unseen. 

Spammers gets most the attention and sometimes the attention they get is out of pity.

It's a sad thing when everyone is just trying to get free delegation, Steem, SBD without contributing to the community and providing quality OC. 

It seems as though all the people who phish on other platforms are starting to make their way over here.

Thanks for the post and raising awareness to the people who may be getting some of the same unsolicited requests on Discord.

Sometimes I will find their profile and downvote them for this.

I'm OK with links so long as they're relevant.

@paulag Sorry I want to ask and do not get angry, For points 9 and 10, why you write vote resteem and follow in your post, does it exclude asking for votes. Sorry I am still a beginner and do not understand

Yes, that's a very nice feminine photo of you @paulag, but sure nowadays you never can tell ;). 

I have also discovered that, yes, different cultures just simply behave differently, and I'm finding that I have to be more patient and understanding, before I put the boot in. I politely pointed out (that's not like me) to one person that they should not do this spam thing, and they immediately apologized! I was glad I gave the benefit of the doubt on that occasion. I shall politely point them to your post here in future..............so that they can spam you instead :). Thank you.

Its more of that. They don't understand stepping into another person's personal space and asking for various things. 

The guidelines you can up with are very helpful.

Those unwritten rules are finally should be written due to the lack of sensitivity interaction by some stemians.

The same goes for the comments section on Steemit itself and I think the the writing of inane comments like 'Great post, I'm glad I know that now fine sir' is also a straw on the camels back.

I have been getting that on steemit.chat for a long time and those that just drop their links. Then on discord. Of course, others will say "Good post" or "Nice post" and they think it's so good and so nice that they never even upvote just 1%. After a while, I learn who not to was my time with on my bandwidth and decided to mute these jokers.

I could not agree more! It is really disturbing to have people DM you out of nowhere when they could just engage in the chat channels. It is really annoying to see how some people just have that need to abuse and beg for upvotes. Anyways, at least pointing it out like you do surely helps spread the word :)

Hi Paulag, since I am very new to the community I haven't had the problems you are talking about. But your words seem very wise to me. Would also be a great first Information for Newbies. Everyone should have this Information when starting.

This will be an ever going struggle as people continually come on a new.  I have myself set as invisible often now.
