Hello! When checking the mail today I saw a message about ephemeris that tells me that it is the anniversary of the birth of Francis Crick (1916), the British biophysicist who together with James Dewey Watson and Maurice Wilkins received the Nobel Prize (1962) for discovering the molecular structure of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and make a fundamental contribution to the biological and medical knowledge of the 20th century.

When I was little, these ideas of DNA and its manipulation, led us along two paths of imagination, on the one hand the idea of creating a Super-Human and on the other, a very cyberpunk one, led us to the nightmare of a degradation genetics and the destruction of the human species. Several decades have passed and none of that has happened yet, none of the paths we hoped for has yet been fully accomplished.

You know, actually, it always caught my attention that with so little things such complicated things could be done, look that there are only four nitrogenous bases that make up all DNA: Adenine, Guanine, Thymine and Cytosine.

¡Hola!

Only four and they give us a vast amount of combinations to be arranged in the double helix chain, giving rise to the foundations of the multicellular living forms that we know, since the only ones I remember that do not have this structure are viruses and bacteria. Thus, DNA is considered the set of fundamental instructions for the transmission of biological information of organisms.

It is very interesting and revealing to find that this thing actually makes us more similar than different, since 99.9% of DNA is similar in all human beings, leaving only 0.1% individual specificity on average. This should help us as a species to overcome racial segregation a bit, but in truth we humans are stubborn and stubborn in maintaining our prejudices.

I even remember that this knowledge brings us much closer to other species, since we have a percentage of genetic similarity with other mammals (such as pigs and mice) that exceeds 95% and I even read once that humans are 98% similar to chickens ... And they are oviparous! They're Birds!

In short, it showed us that we were part of the animal kingdom and that living species were closer to us than we imagined before. Unfortunately, even today it seems that these things have not favored a more ecological, less segregationist and more balanced thinking ... I suppose that this is for more political than scientific issues and that is a shame.

Well, that was regarding the date, regarding my personal day, well, I have to say that it is a calm day, there is rainy weather and the electricity was failing, but now I have electrical service and signal, so I can say that I'm fine and that makes me happy. I wish you well and that you are successful in what you do.
