The Mk2 Golf project has no longer stalled, thanks Triple M  Roadside Assistance. 

A mobile mechanic local to our area - came out and had his first cursory glance at the Volkswagen. 
Typically, the garage door decided to fail, so we had to jack that up with a block of wood...after that though, we emptied out the bumper and the other ancillaries and other things in front of the car, so we could get in and see what needed to be done. 

As you'll see from the video, the battery tray was in a sorry state. It hadn't gone through to the inner wing so the rot wasn't that deep, however it had gone a little bit into the chassis leg, but not as much as to compromise the integrity and strength. 

the mechanic cut out the rot with a grinder until he hit solid metal. Then it was just a case of cleaning up the area with a wire brush, and placing the battery tray over the top and drilling holes for the weld. 

The whole job took about two hours, and now the car is well on the way to being back on the road! 

Next Tuesday, we start with the engine conversion, which will require a crane. Then we can drop the engine in, and bolt it up with the three mounts and start with reconnecting the loom. 

First though, we are going to change the timing belt whilst it is outside the car, as it is a lot quicker and a lot easier that way. 

As you can see, the project forges on the Mk2 Golf - may well be ready sooner than spring - yay!
