Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has responded to criticism since the start of the season because of his low level and weak goal.

Benzema said he was playing for those who appreciated what he was doing on the pitch, saying he could not change the opinion of those who criticize him for not scoring goals.

"I think a lot on the pitch, as if I had a computer in my head, before touching the ball I need to see what others can do, that's part of football," Benzema said in an interview with Vanity Fair.


"Has Benazima, Gareth Bell and Cristiano Ronaldo now been evil in the opinion of some?"

"I play football to help my colleagues always and to win everything, but I do not like to be attacked when I play well and I do not score goals," said Benzema, who joined Real in the summer of 2009 from Olympique Lyon.

He continued: "Those who come to shout booing to do what they ask them, I will not change their opinion, senior players are always being criticized."

"Here they sell newspapers more when I do a bad game," he said. "I do not need to buy newspapers to find out."

"I am 30 years old and I live quietly here and if they need me they know where I am," he said.

The 30-year-old spoke of his problem with Valbuena. "When the prime minister talks about you, it's no longer a football issue. I had bad times with Valbuena, but in my case it has become a political issue."

"I was in jail one day and then I came back to Madrid and I am sad. Now I am 30 years old and I have two children, they need me."

"I lived in Madrid for almost 10 years, and since I was 23, I decided to change my lifestyle, either to be disciplined or go back to France."
