Mindful Monday - New Year - Creating New Habits...

**New Year's Eve tomorrow!** 

This time of year has me reflecting and thinking of ways to make the next year better than the previous year.

>Is that making a New Year resolutions? 

I want to implement these ideas and intentionally create new habits with them!

I have a process for doing this so it's not like many resolutions that you start off with a bang then it gets dropped or fades into the background.

I'm going to call on my awareness and willpower to start internalizing the new behavior and start to make it something I will do automatically without having to think about it, develop a new habit.

##### Steps for Process Used to Develop New Habits
1)**Making the Decision of What Exactly It Is You Want to Do**
- First step is to be aware of what you want that new habit to be, being as specific as possible. 
- Now make a commitment to the when and how you specified in the first step

2)**Having a Firm Commitment Then Call on Some Willpower to Set Things in Motion**
- When things inside you are resisting the change this is a good time to have set a daily reminder (like setting an alert on your phone, putting up sticky notes in strategic places or adding it to your daily to-do list) This will help you avoid slipping back into old habits.
- Set yourself up for success!

3)**Make It Part Of Your Routine So You Can Slide Into the Habit** 
- there may still be some resistance to push through before it starts to feel natural. This will entail some willpower but by adding it to your routines it limits the amount of will power needed
- If you can incorporate it into your existing routines all the better, but setting up a new routine works too and you will not have to rely on those daily reminders. 
- Practice the routine until it’s second nature

4)**Work on Having Success With One Change at a Time**
- It’s hard to keep up willpower for any length of time, eventually our willpower fades and may run out. 
- Work with your awareness and will power to create that one new habit. Work at it for a complete cycle (it is said it takes about 30 days to form a habit) before taking on another development of a new habit.

Knowing that it is harder at first but as you start to establish that habit, it becomes easier until it takes on a life of it's own and you don’t even have to think about it anymore. Knowing this process can help you stick it out. 

So while you're transitioning from willpower to habit use the tools I mentioned to make it easier. An accountability partner can be very motivating too.

##### Go ahead and create a new habit  and reap these benefits -
We all have numerous amounts of decisions to make in a day and you may find it gets harder at the end of the day when you are tired to make decisions. You can cut out a lot of decision making by implementing habits and routines. Prioritize and save your "on the spot" decision making for the important stuff. That way you will free brain space for your creativity! It can help cut out a lot of daily stress too and simplify your life!

By what I see and understand, Hive is the new beta.steemit.com, each community signing up will be registered with a number. This was discussed at SteemFest and started shortly after, perhaps some with more insight will be available to explain further.

The HIVE-numbers are from the new communities - if you use the Hive-number as your first tag it will show up in that communities community page. I belong to a few communities.
Natural medicine is hive-120078 there trending page is https://beta.steemit.com/trending/hive-120078
You can view different communities on the left hand menu and subscribe to them then they will show up in your communities on the left hand menu.
Powerhousecreatives is hive-114105

Go to https://beta.steemit.com and sign in just like you would on steemit then join some communities and carry on from there.

Sorry I don't have a link for further reading. I learned most from the Natural Medicine discord server.

_Everything in Moderation_, is what my Dad always said, don't set yourself up for failure take one step at a time. 

This related to most things in life, example... wanting to diet and lose weight, walk each day and halve you plate, never take everything away or you start craving for the things you cut out completely.

Happy new year @porters! Excellent tips here on making changes, I totally agree that one can only succeed in the long run by implementing new habits/practices one by one. Often trying to make too many at once is just setting ourselves up for failure as we need to be comfortable in lifestyle changes! Thank you for the inspiration.
