Our Children are Our Future - Make It a Healthy One...

For this challenge I'm thinking more along the lines of education or specifically what we want our children to learn to remain healthy and prevent disease.

It starts right from an infant being properly cared for, having it's needs met, being kept well fed, clean, warm and comfortable. Let's not forget about the love and affection that is so necessary to thrive too!

As the child is growing strong and healthy it is also picking up habits and certain patterns. Let them grow up in a family with a healthy lifestyle. Make these habits ones that will benefit them and lead to being a healthy individual. Be the role model that they will emulate. Help them to make healthy choices. Be an advocate for their health both physical, mental, and also for their social well-being.

Hopefully they will grow to appreciate the care they were given and continue to take good care of themselves!

Encourage them to take part in their self-care - taking part in preventing disease, developing good personal hygiene, observing their diet, sleep patterns, exercise behavior and doing their part to ensure a healthy environment to live in. Encourage the development of strong social relationships which starts young just as they are starting to socialize.

Work to enhance yours and theirs - physical, mental, spiritual, social and environmental well-being. 

You may not be able to avoid disease completely, but work to develop resilience. Plan to tend to any ailments that arise and take care of them before they take hold. Help your kids learn to develop friendships and loving relationships and also to remove from their life any unhealthy relations or toxic people. 

One last thing - learn to be grateful. Being grateful can also bring motivation to maintain this healthy way of being.

This article seemed to focus on the child but often when you are in a position of teaching, you also are learning a lot. Live to grow to your greatest potential and work to see your child grows to their greatest potential. This will help you both along the way!

Be well and happy and raise happy, healthy kids!

I think there is not a person alive who would disagree with anything you've said.  A wonderful beginning.  The idea of "disease" being normal underpins this challenge, and it's something I'm not hugely comfortable with - we've been socialized far too heavily into thinking this way!  

The How To of it is where it all happens, or not.  LOL.  And therein is the real challenge.

I often feel that way too about "disease" being the norm for I often feel fine, I'm healthy and happy and want to carry on with other things not always thinking about my health or worse yet worrying about disease! And yes, to have the children be healthy and happy and to grow into healthy happy adults!

It's really a challenge to raise kids today, for fear of what parents are "required" to do when they don't believe it's right, and when they are forced to go against their own better judgment.  Whether they are right or wrong, it's got to be tougher than ever to have confidence they're doing the right thing one way or the other.

I've tried very hard to instill in my own children the idea that health needs to be treated holistically; it's not just exercise, or diet, or cleanliness, or sleep, etc, but a combination of it all. Building up a resiliency requires both a healthy body and mind, so I'd even throw in their mental health exercises such as being in sunlight and meditation.

Thanks for the great post! Most good things start in the home.
