You may be having thoughts of why the word "selfish"? Is this writer actually saying that selfish act is something good? Well, I am here to clear you. Firstly let me start with the meaning of the word selfish. Being selfish is the act of thinking and holding oneself in high regards only and not having thoughts of others. Through my definition, you will see that there is no harm of holding oneself in high regards or is there? I guess your thoughts will be it is when one only cares and think only about themselves. I guess this may sound so strange because morality has taught us that the act of selfishness isn't a good act. But I will love to ask us all a question. How many of our selfless friends have really made it in life? You may be able to point out a few selfless individuals that have made a success but I will tell you that at a point in life such individuals develop the act of being selfish. Selflessness and being good to others is nice but at times you ought not to be the so-called Mr nice guy or Miss nice girl. You got to put yourself first because getting a good life for yourself is what matters most. Making you the best should be your top priority. I have seen a number of cases where someone who did a selfless act towards others got treated badly. If only such an individual possesses some value of being selfish maybe such might not happen. I'm not advising anyone to become selfish because of unfair treatment he/she may have gotten from those they helped in the past, for the fact that people treat you as mud doesn't mean you should act as a mud. You got to stand up and be better, possess that unique quality of being wise. Selfless service good and we all should try to possess it but we shouldn't forget about ourselves at the end of the day.
