Raspberries From The Garden
The raspberries are going gangbusters. These from plants in our frontyard:

The Japanese Beetles are just starting to attack in force (raspberry plants top left in this pic). Last year they were everywhere. This means war!

My lovely wife might have a *teeny tiny* but of obsessiveness about gardening. Here she is, weeding while it’s raining heavily:

Seeing your photos, I got struck by a strong feeling of nostalgia.

I grew up in East Africa and though living close to the equator, it is very green (Arusha, at the foot of Mt Meru) because of the high altittude, rains (short and long rain seasons) tale up a good part of the year, with drizzles and mists a part of it. A wonderful and very interesting place to live as a child.

We too had our own raspberries, so sweet that it never occurred to us that we should cover them with sugar, as happens in London where they are mostly sour.

I've done that kind of mindless gardening where I drift within my thoughts as my body keeps busy, so I know how your wife feels. I hope she can continue doing so for many years.

Many thanks. I hope to garden many more years as well. I grew up in Oregon. Also very green and wet, also with our own raspberries. My garden is nothing to my father’s in Portland. But he lived in the house where I grew up for over 35 years. I’ve only been in this one for 13. Please note, my dear husband has his own obsessions, but to his credit none involve getting soaked to the skin in rain storms. His chief obsession rhymes with “dreamit”.

Looks like a nice crop man, Ours are still a few weeks away up here, but looking forward to them. I seen someone else mention the japanese beetles too, glad there not an issue here, we already have enough trouble with the caterpillars.
