Do Not Rely on Your Understanding of Someone When You Should Not Rely on Yourself
"Do not anticipate trouble, or worry about what may never happen." What is that old saying we often hear as children? "Don't try to fix the world, or your neighbors, you will just make things worse."

I have had those days, when the world seemed so hopeless. But then I realized that life is a mystery, and I had a choice to make. I can choose to look at a situation that is causing me concern and anxiety, and decide whether or not I am willing to take a chance on the unknown. Or I can decide to do what I know how to do best, which is to live my life in the present.

My first tip for surviving any unexpected event or development in my life is this. In order to survive anything in life, you need to believe that it is inevitable. Yes, there will be problems and challenges, but if you believe that you can weather them, then you will survive them. Do not anticipate them.

The second step to surviving unexpected trouble in your life is preparation. Whether you are dealing with a problem that someone else caused or caused themselves, it is important that you develop a plan of action. It doesn't matter who caused the trouble, or how you discovered the trouble. If you prepared for it, then you can deal with it and prevent it from becoming worse.

So if someone caused you pain or heartache and told you that they were having financial difficulties, and you could not pay them back, and you cried and trusted them, and you were determined that you would pay them back, you would have three good choices. You could try to work with the person, convince them that paying the debt off is in your best interest, or you could do everything in your power to cause as much damage as possible to their finances. Most people who cause you this kind of trouble usually do not expect it. The way you handle this unexpected problem determines how much later trouble you will face.

If you have experienced someone you know facing financial hardship, and you know that it was not their fault, but you want to help them out as much as possible, but you have been unable to get them to cooperate with you, your first instinct might be to ignore them and do nothing. This only makes things worse. If you try to ignore them, you may cause the other person to become irritated enough to want to cause even more trouble. The best thing to do is to try to be polite and nice, and let them know you are concerned with their situation, but also let them know you will help as much as you can.

Most people who cause you unexpected trouble are human. They make mistakes. The best thing to do is not to take it personally. When you experience sudden problems like this, the last thing you need to be thinking about is yourself. Instead, you should be thinking about how you will fix whatever is wrong with them and let them know you are willing to help them get back on their feet financially.

Being able to handle unexpected issues is the responsibility of each individual. If you think someone you know needs help, make an appointment to come and see them and see what they need. If they cannot attend a meeting, send them a note that states that you will be there at the scheduled time, and hopefully they will be able to attend and it will not scare them away from you anymore. Do not anticipate trouble, or you will be left holding the bag. Rather, you will be the one left worrying about what could happen.
