"White nights" phenomenon is a relative of the northern lights. They are actually not so white or bright, as you can see on my pics. But in comparison with the inky dark southern nights - yes, very bright, you can even read the newspaper! 

The peak period is from May to June. This was shot on June, 27 (13 years ago). I used my 1st 50mm lens (a cheap 1.8 version) and no tripod -- now I have to retake the subject, equipped with wide-angle lens and a tripod I've acquainted this year.

The web and spiders, shot in the city backlights, came out surprisingly cool. I would definitely give them first place in some contest if I was in judge... Although most likely, the same subject photos from other participants would be no worse!

Fireshows were pretty well-spread at some point... when it wasnt so over-regulated, and folks were breathing a bit more freely than now.

My first CF card I bought was 512mb! No surprise that I hated using raw format during my walks... very soon I've obtained another 1Gb one... and after a few years of saving money, one more, this time 4Gb. Of course, now I can save everything in .raw format for later post-processing and getting greated results.... but... but...

Nevertheless, in this folder I have a dozen more photos - the city wakes up, people go to work, and the first people of course are janitors and road workers. But I will not show them, not this time. thank you. these are very old... from 2006. I love the spiders / web ones, all the rest (in my today's opinion) arent so good. shooting with a full-frame camera, and processing the raws surely will bring on the table more quality stuff. next season I will try to do the job done.

but still, this is better than nothing.

These are seriously cool shots and I do love that one which you said you would award the prize to in a contests and i must say it would be hard to beat

I shoot mostly in RA mode, but if doing an event when I will have lots of photos to edit in a short time then I will switch to jpg, and yes you can still do a lot with them

Lovely photos my friend and I am surprised at how light it is!
That first photo is magic.
I don't use any editing programs and all of my photos are natural in .jpg
St. Petersburg is indeed a wonderland.

"White Nights," with that lovely cobalt blue colored sky as a backdrop, sets one heck of a setting for your incredible photographs.
