How Discord has changed the way I use the internet (a review)

Discord is one of the greatest newer projects I have been introduced to, which is why I want Steemit to know about it and take advantage.

Being able to communicate over the internet is a priceless innovation that has changed the world significantly if you think about it. Before people were able to communicate using the internet there was only mail, phone and of course in person conversation. Now I love one-on-one conversation in real life don't get me wrong, but it's not always that convenient. Why is this important for Discord?

gaming

businesses

projects

group affiliates

job interviews

etc..

Skype was a leader in the industry Discord is aiming for, and for quite a long time. After the hype of Skype died down it fell out of favor, and to me is a useless piece of technology nowadays. The only people who really even use Skype anymore are businesses wanting to do meetings when they aren't able to have that convenience I talked about earlier. Nowadays even the uses for that are dwindling for Skype. Alot of users of Discord are the online gaming community to communicate while in-game. There is a few other companies in competition in that aspect (Teamspeak, Ventrillo, Curse [now Twitch for some reason]), although I feel like all of these have nothing to offer that Discord doesn't do 10 times better. Being a user of Curse for a long time, I switched to Discord about a month ago and have not only noticed a improvement in the way I'm able to communicate in game, but with the general satisfaction I've had using this program.

The reason I want to bring this up to the attention of Steemit is that I see huge potential coming from Discord for one reason: the ability to create servers.

First of all, it's FREE. No more paying for servers.

Secondly, you're able to personalize your channel in sooooo many ways.

Let's take a step back and forget the obvious marketing to online gamers. Youtube video creators, artists, bloggers, gamers, cryptocurrency, and many more can take advantage of this fact. For example if you make videos on Youtube about cryptocurrency trading you could just create your own Discord server dedicated to your followers to keep in touch and chat with live from time to time.

I see big things happening with Discord in the future, and the great thing about it is their marketing is already insane (blue is a strong independent color that don't need no man). One thing I'd love to see in the future for Discord to add would be live podcast hosting on your channel that can be recorded at the same time for others to listen to later if they missed it or are new to your server. Also live video would be great down the road as well.

If you are trying to keep in touch with anybody or any group of people on the internet, download Discord and start spreading this technology. Forget only gamers, let's make this the new Skype 2.0?

STEEM ON!
