After a long and adventurous journey of the fool/hero, last time we finally arrived at a warm and cozy place. The late years in life, where everything slows down to a more comfortable pace and we are more relaxed and patient... 

We are almost at the end of our journey now and in picture "XX - Judgement" we are presented the idea of resurrection.

We look back on our lives, on all the ups and downs and now we can understand everything that once caused us all the many problems. We can already see the light at the end of the tunnel. Here you can already have a look into paradise.

Although these messages are clear, this card has always been the most difficult for me to both, understand or explain. For me, at this position we are at a point, that is no longer fully a part of our (physical) world. We are about to step into another dimension, now equipped with all the knowledge and experience we gathered in the journey we have almost completed.

For me this card always had a touch of in between... transition, from the physical into the spiritual world. My approach when I did the cards was always more intuitive and when I painted this one I was about to enter a new phase in my life where I felt a higher level of spiritual freedom.

It was overall a very difficult time and maybe this is why the artwork is still unfinished today. Actually, due to the bad shape of the building from the 15th century, I gave up the project back in 2014 and moved my art into storage. I am currently discussing a few options to put it back up and finish it, but its all open at the moment.

The whole work consists of 66 pieces of glass between 3 and 6 feet high.

The whole work is divided into three lines with 22 pictures each. The middle row shows the 22 major arcana or trump cards of the Tarot, the part of the card game that supposedly originates from ancient Egypt. In the line below you can see the story: "How the cards came from Egypt to Bavaria".

The story begins at the bottom left with the emergence of the world after the imagination of the ancient Egyptians.

Through the depiction of the Osiris legend and some important scenes from ancient Egypt we reach the climax of the story, the creation of the tarot cards.<br>

In the four pictures in the middle we see Thoth, the ancient Egyptian god of science, gathering his priests around him and telling them to find a way to preserve the wisdom of the ancient Egyptians for all eternity.

After they had discussed and rejected several possibilities they came to the conclusion that the only really permanent thing... is human vices. They decided to put all their knowledge in allegorical pictures, make a card game out of it and distribute it to the people. It was assumed that people would give themselves to gambling and reproduce the cards and spread them all over the world.  The preservation of the knowledge of the ancient Egyptians was thus assured...
