Just for fun, here is a graph of daily numbers of cases logged in the US since I started this series in February.

My personal guess is that today's massive increase has more to do with a ramp-up in testing than the actual spread of the virus.

As mentioned in previous posts, here is a visualization tool for mapping the cases of COVID-19 occurrences.

According to the site, this morning's worldwide number of reported cases was 3,871,718 with 1,296,175 recoveries, 270,404 fatalitiees, and 1,256,972 cases in the US. This represents 67,566 new cases in the United States (US), an increase of 43,432 over the day before. As [anticipated](/@remlaps-lite/the-daily-covid-chronicle-may-2-2020), it looks like the ramp-up in testing, may be increasing the observed number of new cases. This is the biggest single day increase in new US cases since I've been logging these numbers - by far.

In the US, reported cases include 195,036 recoveries, 75,670, and 55,956 cases with 3,589 deaths in my own state, Pennsylvania.

In conversation with TED's head of curation Helen Walters, writer and publisher Huang Hung sheds light on how Chinese and American cultural values shaped their responses to the outbreak -- and provides perspective on why everyone needs to come together to end the pandemic.
