Greetings friends and lovers of agriculture and nature.

Today I want to share with you through this post, the experience in the sowing and next harvest of the fruit called parcha, known with this name in Venezuela. It is similar to the parchita but it is bigger and with another flavor, where you can make juice with its seeds and meringue with the pulp. Very nutritious!
Called also as the badea or giant tumbo or quijón, this plant is a typical vine that intercepts almost all sunlight due to the leafiness of its leaves, so that below the ground is almost completely dark.

In the garden of the house, a bush of this type was planted, where it grew and spread around it. We proceeded to cross the branches together and placing a platform so that they could become entangled.

The funny thing is that when the flowers were born, the whole family was excited because it was going to bear fruit, however, the flowers closed and fell. Other colleagues who like agriculture, informed us that it was necessary that the cigarron visit the plants, so that he would do his job in sucking the nectar and in this way see the fruit being born.

A few days later, we noticed that a couple of crayons came to the plant and a few days later we saw the small fruits coming out. In the next photo you can see how it is going.

All excited because these fruits are no longer born, they are everywhere on the plant and there is little left to harvest and eat.


I leave a small summary of the medicinal properties of this fruit, for example, for the treatment of high cholesterol. Similarly, the root is used to eliminate intestinal worms. In its composition has been discovered serotonin, a powerful neurotransmitter, necessary for the good state of the nervous system and whose deficiencies are responsible for pathologies such as depression, certain types of obesity, obsessive behaviors, insomnia and migraines. It is the plant that contains the highest amount of niacin.
