Is Steemit a good expression of the free market?

I tell my kids, "It's not about you all the time."  

I've only made a few posts here on Steemit and I don't understand how the algorithms work.  But, one thing is blatantly clear to me.  In order to grow the wallet, the most important thing is upvotes.  Without upvotes, it's not going to happen.

I've made just a few posts as I'm experimenting with Steemit and some of the posts into which I've put a lot of time and effort that I thought were amazing went nowhere.  Others, seemed to really take off and I was surprised.

The big takeaway for me is that I need to put myself in your shoes and figure out what you like and what's important to you.  It's challenging and I do like it.  And I think Steemit is a very good expression of the free market.  You gotta give to receive!

Same here!   When I really put hours into a post, I get $0.23 
Others I get $20 +
I think it has a lot to do with who is on line (to vote) when you post it.  
And by extension, it has a lot to do with what time you post.

Starting at about 2:00 pm eastern?  I am in Argentina - I post between 3pm-6pm my time.

You can check best by clicking "New" and scroll down to the posts that are 30 to 40 minutes old.   If some of them are getting $20 to $50 (at 30 minutes) then those people posted at the right time.
