"Commemorative coins were first issued by the United States Mint in 1892 to mark the World’s Columbian Exposition. The silver half dollars depicting Christopher Columbus were sold at the expedition for one dollar each. In subsequent years, the US Mint would continue the tradition of issuing gold and silver commemoratives to honor the important people, places, and events of the country.

Early commemorative coins were issued between the years 1892 and 1954 and have included primarily silver half dollars and gold dollars."

I will show the series "Silver Early Commemoratives". It will be presented in alphabetical order.

All coins weight 12.5g, with 90% silver purity.

The third is a MS65 1936-S "Bay Bridge" Half Dollar.

"The opening of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge was commemorated with the issuance of a silver half dollar. Commonly referred to as the Bay Bridge Half Dollar, the issue proved to be one of the most popular from the plethora of commemorative coins released during the same year."

NGC graded 3,938 1936-S "Bay Bridge" Half Dollars, with 1,504 as MS65 and 739 above. 71,369 1936-S "Bay Bridge" were minted in San Francisco in 1936.

Today's price is around $265.00.

"The obverse features a grizzly bear, as a symbol of California, in three-quarter view.  Both sides were designed by San Francisco artist Jacques Schnier. "
