I posted last week about St. Patrick's Day in Dublin, Ireland. We spent most of our time in and around Dublin, but we did make the long drive across Ireland to the Dingle Peninsula to spend an evening. One of my co-workers, here in Minneapolis, is from there and his family own's two guesthouses so we got a pretty good deal and figured "Why not?". It was the best decision we made!

Minus driving on the wrong side of the road, on the wrong side of the vehicle, on some of the most skinny roads ever the drive wasn't that bad. If you are up for a real hair raising adventure take Connor's Pass. We took it by mistake and made sure NOT to take it on our way out of town. Arriving at Heaton's Guest House was a very welcoming sight.

We dropped off our bags and quickly made our way to the pubs. There is much more character to the pubs outside of Dublin in my opinion. You get to warm up next to the coal fueled in most pubs which is comforting coming in from a cool rainy walk. The one pictured was at Marina Inn. Our evening was spent bar hopping and eating more seafood than should be humanly possible!

This picture looks like we are at a hardware store correct? Well we are, but it is also a bar! You walk in and there is a bar to the left and a hardware store to the right. It's the only place I have ever been where you can get a hammer, a nail, and a pint! There is so much charm and history in the Dingle Pubs. I truly enjoyed it! 

The next day we planned to head back to Dublin, but not before driving Slea Head Road. It is a windy coastal road around the Dingle Peninsula with beautiful scenery. The beaches, the color of the ocean, the cliffs, the history, the waves all made this place magical! They have little stone huts called Beehives that are from 2,000 B.C.!

The pictures do not do this place justice! If you ever find yourself in Ireland take the time to check out the Dingle Peninsula. It will not disappoint.  If you need a place to stay check out Heaton's Guest House and ask for David. He is the owner and chef. You won't find a better Irish Breakfast anywhere.
