## MARBLE INLAY

Marble inlay flourished under Mughal patronage during the 12th - 19th centuries. Along with carving, glazed tiles, painting and mosaics, inlay was used to decorate buildings and tombs. Glazed tiles and mosaics were usually used as exterior embellishment while mosaic and painting were found on interior surfaces. Inlay was used both on the exteriors and interiors of buildings.

## SILVER FILIGREE
***Silver Filigree Showpieces***
Filigree in ornamental work made of fine silver wire and foil. The art is most prevalent in Odisha and is known locally as tarakasi. In the filigree process, silver is first drawn into wire and foil, and then artistically joined in delicate design. In early days filigree work was in great demand among traders who came to India's shores.Today filigree jewelry is still fashioned in traditional Mughal designs. Decorative objects such as small chariots, carts, boats and animals are also made in filigree.

## WOOD CARVING

Literary and archaeological sources have established the antiquity of the wood carving craft in India. Prototypes have been found in 100 BCE. Buddhist relis at Bharhut, Begh, Bhaja and Sanchi. Traditionally, wood carvers made bedsteads, door panels, temple decorations, thrones and chariots. Today, however, the stress has shifted to small, more functional furniture and articles of daily use. Wood from the rosewood, sandalwood, teak, sal, neem and blackwood trees make the finest carvings.

## PLATE AND SAMOVAR FROM RAJASTHAN

India was the site of some of the world's earliest experimentation with metalworking in copper and bronze. This technology carved the path for the melding of science into the arts and religions of India. Copper was considered second only to gold in purity and was therefore highly desirable for sculptures of the deities.

## MEENAKARI
***Meenakari - enamel work on vase***
Meenakari is the art of coloring and ornamenting the surface of metals by fusing over it brilliant colors that are decorated in an intricate design. Meena, enamel work on gold, silver, and brass are notable among the Mughal's innovations in metal craft. It was used for enriching jewellery and also previous objects which sometimes were studded with gems such as diamonds, rubies, and emeralds. Stylized floral and bird motifs are very popular.

## LOST WAX CASTING
***A clay plate made in Lost-wax casting process***
The art of lost-wax casting dates to 2000 B.C. in India. A model is made of clay, and then a wax mold is shaped around it. A second layer of clay is shaped around the wax. The clay is heated, causing the wax to drain out, therefore the wax is 'lost', The hollow mold can then be filled with molten metal. After the metal cools the clay mold is discarded.
