Candle in an Hour Glass: A Love Burned Out

Single Sandy lit a red candle

High up on a castle's window

Aeson would look up and see

Then know he had her heart; and

Light up his own response

A strolling Sandy had bumped into Aeson

On a Sunny Sunday afternoon 

Smiles; some words traded 

Heart racing, a besotted Sandy hurried home

'Twas a start of something new

Besotted Sandy sent Aeson a hintie note

Then sat watching for his own signal

At intervals, replacing burnt out candles

Too high to see? She used a lower holder

Too small? A bigger candle

Till only one stick remained with an anxious Sandy

Stiff Aeson saw the glow in the window

First, he'd spare no dime for a matchstick 

Then he couldn't be bothered; light-hearted Aeson 

He'd take his time, drift off a little 

Plenty time to please his sweet Sandy

Anxious Sandy lit the last candle

It flickered; teardrop shaped flame

Dead glow, darkness falls

A lovelorn Sandy; cold wax remained

Off she went, heart locked in the strong-walled castle.

Sleeping Aeson awoke from his slumber

A bleak heart in a world turned black 

Months flown by, glow lone gone

He knew just what he needed 

A ray of sunshine disperses darkness.

A searching Aeson,  after sweet Sandy

Bought a matchbox and a bag of candles

A candle each day till forever

He found her, hap his wing man 

But she was now resolute Sandy

A nice bloke had stolen his rare gem

Lovelorn Aeson, bessotted and  single.
