<p>I reached level 60 yesterday! It feels good, but at the same time I feel I have a long way to go to be satisfied. Perhaps it's just because of the mood I am in these past few days that the celebration isn't as special as I hoped it would be. Regardless, thank you everyone for the votes and support to get me to this level!</p>

<p>As most of you know I was hit by one of life's curveballs on Friday. The project I had been working on for several weeks burnt down, literally. It's set me back several months and is forcing me to make some extreme decisions I had hoped I would never have to make until I was ready. However, thanks to the wonderful Steemit community, especially the Japanese community &amp; crypto I will be able to offset some of my financial difficulties for the next few months. I will not forget the support from everyone!</p>

<p>We were able to get back into the house on Saturday to pick up some of our tools. The insurance investigator had finished for the day and said we could take any tools we had in the kitchen. The rest of the house was still off limits.</p>

<p>One of the owners met us on Saturday afternoon to let us in and give us an update. Unfortunately I wasn't able to take pictures or video. The house was dark due to no electricity and all of the windows being boarded up. It reeked of musty smoke and everything was still soaking wet. After only 10 minutes inside we came out reeking of smoke too. </p>

<p>About half of our tools had been spared. Some were singed, but not damaged beyond that and usable. Our batteries and battery chargers for our hand tools had melted so thats a loss. Anything that was above 4 feet high was damaged. Anything below was fine.</p>

<p>We gathered up our tools and headed outside to talk to the owner. She told us the insurance investigator had some questions and would be contacting us. He seemed to disagree with the fire captain about where the fire started. He also told the owner that our work tools would not be covered by their insurance. So now we have to see if the General Contractor's insurance will. Fighting with insurance companies is almost not worth the effort when the dollar amount owed is so small. I'm sure they know that which is why they deny your claim and give you the run around.</p>

<p>So, that's where I stand. Some tools were salvageable and many unanswered questions.</p>

<h4>The Great Tohouku Earthquake 2011-3-11. 東北地方太平洋沖地震</h4>
<p>I will never forget that day &amp; week. I was just waking up around 6am when my friend called me and asked if I had seen the news. I said "No, I just woke up. What's going on?" He told me Japan had a huge earthquake. So I woke my wife up and we rushed to turn the TV on. Images were coming in of the tsunami obliterating everything in it's path. It was a disaster movie in real life. Immediately my wife called her family in Akita. They were ok, and hadn't suffered any major damage. Every one we knew had made it through without any major problems.</p>

<p>I went into the office, I worked for a Japanese company in LA, and most of my co-wokers were in shock. I was the only non-Japanese in the office and understandably they were in a state of panic for their loved ones. Our Tokyo office had survived, but was a bit of a mess. As the week went on it would become more dire.</p>

<p>As we took in the news and scenes throughout the day things just kept getting worse. The earthquake, while incredibly powerful, hadn't done that much damage in relation to other Japanese earthquakes like Kobe. It was the tsunami that ravaged the east coast and took most of the lives. Then Fukushima happened.</p>

<p>When Fukushima happened our office made immediate plans for our co-workers in our Tokyo office to go to Osaka and get out of Tokyo. It was that serious. We all pooled together some money and sent it over. Everyone was waiting to see what would happen next. When the last reactor blew one worker left on her own volition. The other 4 said they had to stay in Tokyo to help their families and others. It was fucking heartbreaking to see them making these decisions not knowing what the future might hold. We all thought Tokyo was going to be a dead zone because of the reactor melt downs. Thankfully it didn't reach that magnitude. But Fukushima is fucked.</p>

<p>Fukushima to this day keeps me on edge living in Japan. I worry about the food we eat, the water we drink and the playgrounds my kids play at. We watch what we feed our kids and never buy anything from Fukushima or the surrounding prefectures. I realize we don't have the luxury when dinning out, but when we have a choice we error on the side of caution.</p>

<p>On 3/15 we received an early morning phone call from one of my wife's family members. Her aunt had passed away from a heart attack. We are pretty sure it was related to everything, Fukushima, the chaos, etc. She was a wonderful person and I miss her to this day. She treated my wife as her daughter and looked after me as well. She was pretty much like my wife's mother in Tokyo. Her name was Yoko and she was a wonderful person. We visit her grave often as it is close to our house, just across from Hachioji University. She was taken too soon.</p>

Seven years, I remember seeing the USGS in Alaska
ring off late by evening and calling a friend who had
a friend in Hawaii. Tsunami was the worries of those
further away at first. I remember this time period also
as I lost my Mom a month later, she was in Calif.
The Tsunami was one of our last real conversations,.

Ugh insurance companies.

I do wonder how Tokyo and other cities are
doing over by Fukushima. I noticed you are
not shy of the F word :-) , but we called it
fuck u shima after that happened, not good,
like killing the spirit.

While surrouned with plunty of natural and

Yes, Fuck you shima fits. It's maddening what they are doing with that prefecture. They have been promoting the food from it all over the country like if you don't eat it you are guilty of hurting those farmers a second time. It's madness. We drove through there after the new year and stopped at a rest stop to get gas, but we wouldn't touch any of the food they were selling. Crazy thing was, everyone else was buying!

I can't remember how long I've been on 63 (coz it's been so long 😕) but I reckon it was quite a while before Xmas.  Being away in UK for nearly a month and not as active hadn't help, but I did notice after I've returned these couple of weeks I've nudged up 0.1, so with a bit of luck and hard work I might level up to 64 at the end of the month.

it's going to take some time to recoup everything and let everything get back on track. Even though i did not live in Japan and have the same anxiety as you have, I do take extra measures about the conditions i live in. Beijing is not hawaii for sure and the risk here is a bit different. although we enjoy blue skies and go through some smoggy days, this metropolitan city is not i want to spend the rest of my life in.
