ΔΕΝ ΞΕΧΝΩ (I Do Not Forget)

If you remember yesterday's post, today we were to honor the memory of the Pontian Greeks, victims of the Genocide by the Ottoman Turks 100 years ago. A group of students at the school where I work prepared a humble show for the rest of us. The show began with a very theatrical poem reading.

They continued to present us a short piece of prose *(these kids are from the class where I get in)*.

And finally, they danced at a traditional Pontian song.

After the show was over, the whole school, students and teachers, gathered in the big yard. Six students were holding banners:

Once everybody had sat at the tiers, we waited for...

THE DANCE!

In the middle of the schoolyard, the students who took part in the show performed another Pontian dance and when the song was over, people from the audience could join. What do you think happened then?

It was an amazing experience! Teachers and kids dancing under the sounds of traditional music in the warm, morning sun. I am not a Pontian myself, my family originates from Eastern Thrace, but I must admit that the overall experience was a very emotional one. 

Days like this should not be forgotten. Our history, our tradition, our culture should not be forgotten. Our children of the past should not be forgotten by the children of tomorrow.
