before my [steemit meet-up](https://steemit.com/steemit/@samstickkz/steemit-uyo-meet-up-with-ejemai-decentralizing-the-offline-through-stach) 
  in uyo I was talking  to  some group of  200 level students from the university of uyo who attended the meet-up about steemit  . After I explained what steemit  is  and the difference between steem,  steem dollars and steem power one of them indicated that he  wanted more explanation on what steem is and the future price of steem and asked if he could  buy steem from me.  I didn't have  steem in my wallet on steemit so I had to teach him how to use @blocktrades. 

 what was really interesting about this guy who walked up to me and said he wanted to buy steem  power was the fact that he told me the story behind the money that he wanted to use to buy steem power with. @onyemacourage has been saving 1 dollar almost everyday within the past 8 months and the beautiful part is that he was only saving in bitcoin using  blockchain wallet. whenever he does any business or any investment online he will save $1. 

All he did was to copy his bitcoin address from where he saved it and  send the money  there smoothly.  thats just the way he did it.  although he wasn't really consistent with the saving habit, but  he would  save $1 today, save another $1 in the next two days,  save another $1 the next  4 days.  he was saving at least three times in a week or sometimes 4 times in a week. the savings was small but at the end the savings became his capital.

 The screenshot above just explained it all,  we sometimes look down on small money.   if your goal is to have $1000 by next year , all you need do now is to check  how much you'll need to be saving  everyday from now so you can have $1000 by the end of next year. 

 If you were given 1 million dollars  today and you lose one dollar from it, you'll no longer be  a millionaire. That's to tell you how powerful little money is.  if you constantly save at least 2 steem dollars everyday between now and december 2018 you could end up having  at least 800 dollars worth of spare money in steem dollars by the end of 2018.  you could  use that to buy steem power. the same thing applies to bitcoin, if you consistently save at least 2 dollars worth of bitcoin between now and the 31st of december 2018 you would  have had at least two thousand dollars by the end of 2018.  **You can't gain financial freedom when you look down on little money.** 

 for you to have a good saving habit you will need to be accountable  for every $1 that gets into your hand (wallet). if you're not accountable you can not be rich. **rich people are accountable people.**

## 1. Cook your own food:


This is my Number one way of saving money.  in the  university I used to eat out everyday,  just because I didn't know how to cook and didn't  have much time to cook (excuse).   Now after school I'm still  facing a big challenge with getting  something to eat when I get home late. 

The only thing I can cook right now is  noodles,  egg and plantain mixture (my specialty), @evelyniroh  @emem @enoye @onyemacourage @datibomchic  have all tasted my noodles  and can testify. lol

**In summary**: cooking your own food will save you a lot of cash. you may not know how big this little extra money could be until you start cooking your own food. 

## 2. Spend what is left after saving 

another way to save money is by developing a habit of always saving before spending.   whenever you get paid,  just calculate your savings out and use the rest. 


## 3. Buy what you need, not what you want. 

There are lots of beautiful things in this world and if you  want to get all the nice things you see, you'll end up not saving some money.  the best way out is by writing those things you need  and keep some extra for miscellaneous expenses. 

## 4. choose the right place to save

 Deciding to save is one thing, choosing where to save is another. Just like @onyemacourage, he chose to save in bitcoin. I'm not recommending any method (cryptocurrency or fiat)  for saving but whatever method you choose, do well to make proper research before moving your money into any wallet or bank.
