It is sad that parents in India don't think that any other profession, other than medicine or engineering, would earn their child a decent living. Parents make sure that their child is brain washed into choosing any one out of the two most opted professions. The brain washing is so intense that the child starts believing that their parents dream is their dream too.

I won't say that parents do it for their own benifits. I know their purpose of doing so is for the well being of the child, but what I don't understand is this fixatiin towards medicine and engineering as a profession. Why don't they think that other professions can also help their child live peacefully athrough his life. 

Sadly, children are at the relieving end of this pressure. Every child performs well when they are in their primary education years and that strengthens their parents belief that this child would surely fulfil their dreams. The child somehow sails through the phase and that's when the parents decide to push him/her intobtjis intense world of coaching. Yes, these young brains are manipulated to believe that they either like medicine or want yo become engineers and the sole way to do so is your let go their childhood and concentrate on building their future. These children spend hours and hours with their course bool for 6 years of their life since grade 7 to enter the country's prestigious institutions. 

Some of them crack the exam while others slip into depression upon realising that they let their parents down. Those who crack their entrance tests end up in these premier colleges. While some good ones do become what their parents want  them to, some others end up realising that  this is not what they want yo do with their life. They quit engineering and start doing what they love, wasting some precious years of their life. 

What is more worrying is the amount of cash that these parents invest in giving their children coaching at these institutes. Education is a business here and coaching institutes charge around 1.5 lakh per year from every child with a promise to crack the entrance. 

I know where is the end to this. In this race, the country is missing on some brilliant Craftsmen, sportsmen and many more other professionals. I hope parents realise this soon and they try to indentify the indiviual in their child rather than make them like someone else.
