Tesla events certainly get a lot of hype and attention from an ever growing number of electric car fans. And rightly so, as it has been the leading electric car company for years now. In fact, it's one of the prime reasons why electric cars are even becoming a thing in the mainstream.

With Elon Musk at the helm, Tesla has released awe-inspiring, beautiful cars, full of easter eggs and great performance and safety features. After the mixed reactions of the first Roadster, Tesla finally found the sweet spot with the Model S and from there on, the Model X, the Model 3 and the Roadster 2 have pleasantly confounded consumers and turned them into an army of fans. 

Today, Elon Musk took to stage to unveil a new electric SUV called the Model Y, completing the cheeky nomenclature scheme, "S3XY". He started off talking about the history of Tesla and the electric car industry, stating that it was once plain stupid to even want to create electric cars and now everyone was jumping in to make one. 

He also touched upon the manufacturing factories (including the Gigafactories) which are actually more difficult to design then the cars themselves and also gave updates on the Supercharger network, Solar roofs and Powerwall. 

# The All New Model Y

Musk started off by saying that the Model Y will have "the functionality of an SUV but ride like a sports car." The car is really beautiful looking with its panoramic glass roof and looks very similar to the Model 3. Of course it is a little bit bigger and is capable of seating seven people.

Model Y will come in four variations, the Standard range, the Long Range, Dual Motor AWD and the Performance. The top speed ranges from 120 mph to 150 mph and the range goes from 230 miles to 300 miles, which is pretty good for average use. Thanks to the ever growing Supercharger Network, this range will be more than enough for most people. 

As for acceleration, it ranges from 3.5 seconds from 0-60 mph for the Performance model to 5.9 seconds from 0-60 mph for the Standard Range. That's still pretty fast, if you ask me. The price ranges from $39000 to $60000 and you can pre-order one by putting down an advance of $2500. 

All Model Y variants will be equipped with autopilot and self-driving features so that they would be able to become fully autonomous once Tesla finishes up with the software side of the things, estimated to be completed by this year in the least.

The Long Range, Dual Motor AWD and Peformance variants are expected to be delivered by fall 2020 and the Standard Range is expected to be delivered by spring 2021. The Model Y truly puts Tesla a step closer to making electric cars a mainstream reality.
