What’s The One Thing You Would Change About The World?

<p>As I write these words, I am reminded of something that Tony Stark said in the first Iron Man movie, “It’s an imperfect world, but it’s the only one we got.” For me, this quote is meaningful on so many levels.&nbsp;</p>
<p>First, it tells us that we have only the one world and we should do everything in our power to not harm it and second that our world is imperfect meaning that despite our best efforts, we humans are living in a broken system.&nbsp;</p>
<p>There is still so much chaos in the world and so much disparity between members of the same species that it begs to ask the question, “Are we really doing all we can? Are our technological capabilities not enough to make the world a better place?”</p>
<p>Yes, it’s the only world we got and that’s exactly the reason why we should try to address or flaws and try to make the world as perfect as we humanly can so that all its inhabitants, humans, animals and plants, can continue to thrive on it for a long, long time.</p>
<p>Having said this, if you could, what is the one thing you would change about the world? The one thing that could have the most far reaching and positive effects on everyone. Personally, I think I would like to see a world that is rid of poverty.</p>
<h1>Poverty</h1>

<p>As they say, money is the root of all evil, but it is also a necessary evil. Without money, even the basic need of an individual cannot be fulfilled let alone all the other desires that one may have.</p>
<p>It is not hard at all to understand that much of the problems that the world is facing right now, is because there is so much disparity in the incomes of the people in the world that if you go to a developed nation and immediately go to a third world nation, you would see that they lead completely different lives. In ways, you can’t even imagine!</p>
<p>Poverty is a problem that leads to many other problems. It is because of poverty that there are millions of malnourished people in the world which can be seen especially in children of poor families. Due to poverty, people cannot afford healthcare and as such their life expectancy remains very low.</p>
<p>Also, it makes education literally out of reach which is a very dire situation because education is the tool through which everything can be made possible and if children do not get education, they can turn towards disastrous activities that can ruin their lives.&nbsp;</p>
<p>When people are desperate to make ends meet and are living lives where every day is a struggle and a fight for survival, it can quickly lead them towards violence and uprising and the reason for social unrest.&nbsp;</p>
<h1>Some Statistics on Poverty</h1>
<p>I knew that the world poverty was a really serious issue and that a lot of people are living their lives in utter poverty but when I came across some real data, I couldn’t believe my eyes. The situation is worse than I had thought. The following stats has been taken from dosomething.org (<a href="https://www.dosomething.org/us/facts/11-facts-about-global-poverty">Source</a>)

<blockquote>1. Around 1/2 of the world’s population live on less than $2.50 a day. More than 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty — less than $1.25 a day.</blockquote>
<blockquote>2. 1 billion children worldwide are living in poverty. According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty.</blockquote>
<blockquote>3. 805 million people worldwide do not have enough food to eat and more than 750 million people lack adequate access to clean drinking water.</blockquote>
<blockquote>4. 1/4 of all humans live without electricity — approximately 1.6 billion people.</blockquote>
<p><br></p>
<p>This data paints a true picture of the horrible reality of many people’s lives. This makes me wonder where we went wrong in our history to have led to this. Despite our almost “magical” inventions every year, we haven’t been able to come up with a way to solve this gigantic mess that the world is in right now. I wonder if humanity has failed itself.</p>

Thank you for this brother. My goal in life is to generate enough wealth to free my family from this system. Then teach each and every one of them how to give some of their wealth back to people/places around them. Once I have made enough money In life I want to go back to my grandfathers village in Punjab and rebuild everything. Give the kids proper schools, roads. I believe things like Steem/Bitcoin can empower people everywhere. Imagine all of the folks in India with a cellphone and no bank access. All they need is a Steemit account and they can learn how to save and earn money. I believe we are all very lucky to be here. If we become very wealthy one day the most important thing is that we pay it forward.

You are absolutely right in that people from India and other developing nations would benefit a lot from Steem and other cryptocurrencies. These are just taking baby steps right now in the world and might one day be the reason for the changes that we seek.

My grandparents are from India. I was born in America. I have seen how people live back in the village though. It makes me appreciate everything I have even more every time I visit, but it always leaves me asking myself what I can do to help them all.

What about the fact that for every negative instance, a positive instance results?

For example, imagine every single person had plenty of food, money, shelter, and didn't need anything.   

The negatives might be that we'd breed lazy people, and innovators would have no reason to create anything.

It's hard to picture that now, but it could happen.

Of course, I hate poverty and have had poverty in my own life in various stages and various times.

One thing I'd like to change is for ideas and inventions to not be patentable.  I believe the first-to-market advantage is all you get for a new invention.  Develop in secret and then launch your product when it's ready.  Once it is out there, let the copycats come.    Soon people will be competing on "quality of product" and not "what type of product, based on patent rights"

But I suppose this is a discussion for another day. :)

Decentralize utilities by developing earthship biotecture on all new construction.

All people will have their needs met and be able to adopt a modern lifestyle with no impact to the environment and actually clearing away landfills as garbage becomes re-purposed as construction material.
