Kanji or rice porridge is a common soup like meal which is a staple of the people of Kerala.  Broken rice is cooked well along with water which is not strained off. The rice along with the kanji vellam or rice soup is poured on to the plate. Salt is mixed and the side dishes are coconut chutney, pickle, pappad and curry or sambar. This meal is served to people with flu or even fever. It helps to reduce the fever and also provides the nourishment that the body needs. Do try this if you have not had it. Image source - sayee
