<div class= "pull-left"> <img src="https://media.giphy.com/media/5JCEYvy4M3HEY/giphy.gif"> </div> Every day I try to look at ways to improve my eating and health and one thing that has become glaringly obvious is my portion size. I always remember watching a program about the myth of the "big boned" person and this poor large man came on and argued out that he ate healthy food, fruit, salad and other healthy food. The camera's followed him for a day and the one thing that stuck in my mind was his "healthy" breakfast it consisted of apples, oranges, grapes and a number of different types of fruit, but it was basically a trough full of food, he had been fooling himself and was over eating every day. I am a bit like that, where my portion size is not great. <h1>If it can fit comfortably in the palm of your hand</h1> I have heard this as a good rule of thumb when trying to guess a portion and over the last couple of days (using a shiny new set of scales) I have found this largely to be true. I am amazed at how much my estimation was off and I was probably over-eating like my "big boned" friend on the television. it is one more thing that I have learned on this wee journey. portion size is one key element in this. It will take some time to bring it down, but it can be done. My wife used to be able to eat all of her diner, and most of mine and go back for seconds. And I would be full!! We had a takeaway the other night and she said that one portion would have been enough for both of us. In the old days she wold have eaten two portions and complained about still being hungry. Don't try to cut back too much too fast. Try replacing some items with with leafy greens, so it looks like it is the same sized meal (your eyes are really important in managing your hunger) and then slowly (over several months) dial it back. That will let not only your stomach shrink a bit, but also your vision of what is a full plate of food. It's good to see you are making these discoveries - it's all part of the progress and no-one can tell you this stuff really. you need to realise it for yourself. So you are doing well. ;-)

Thanks very much, we are still in the we finish the takeaway and say we should have split the one, but then have two portions for the next takeaway. Everything takes time and one of these days we'll get sense :-) I'm definitely learning as I go and I hope will keep going after these 30 days.

This was the problem I was having whilst I was living with my mum she wanted to make sure her kids were fed well and had full belly's and she never let us leave the table until the plate was clean... Not that I suffered terribly from this but looking back for my brother he put on a lot of weight just because of portion sizes and the food was reasonably healthy home cooked meals! All down to portions too .) So I totally agree with you on that one :) Great post as always and keep up the good work!!
