Definitely! If I know Steemit correctly, they would implement their own solution to avoid having to rely on a third party service, so I don't think we can expect it soon. A plugin, however, utilizing some service which already exists would be super helpful and maybe a bit more probable, since then Steemit doesn't have to take any responsibility.
