Magic Mushrooms

Mushroom or Liberty Cap (Psilocybe semilanceata) is the most notorious of all the hallucinogenic mushrooms, this is the most common and the most potent of them all!

Here is a few I have collected and drying out for later.

They can grow up to 8cm tall and 1.5 cm across, growing in upland grassy areas. The first thing to note is that the cap of the mushroom is hygrophanous, meaning it should change colour depending on how much moisture the mushroom retains. In wet conditions the colour will be yellowish-brown / brown with a slight olive tinge to it. It has a glutinous viscid layer which can be delicately removed. As the mushroom drys out the colour fades to a pale buff or whitish colour with a dark spore stained edge.

They are very difficult to spot in the grass and you need eyes like a hawk to spot them. Much easier when they turn to a white colour. Best place to look for them is in the fields on top of hills that have sheep grazing in them. There is lookalikes so be very careful what you pick.
