## I'd like to live in the 80s.

I was born exactly in the year 1980. Growing up I love almost everything about the 80s. From the music and TV, movies, culture even fashion. The 80's feel gives me the cool and chill vibe, full of promises and positivity.

## Music

### Here are my fave music and artists of the 80s.

#### Michael Jackson 
The king of pop has been one of my crushes since Billie Jean. Who doesn't imitate his iconic dance steps? I replay most of his videos especially thriller.

All the more I love that he collaborated with Sir Paul McCartney, music videos in the 80s usually tell a story and I love the musical chemistry between the two great artists.

#### Madonna 

Of course, Madonna will always be one of the great musical icons of the 80s, I love the vibrancy of her music, the youthful character she brings. Her music will always represent Girl Power to me.

#### Cindy Lauper

Some people in my country confuse Cyndi Lauper and Madonna but I always knew their music by heart. Time After Time will always be my favorite song by her. If Madonna is youthful, well Cyndi is more hyper. I love these two women. They represent the concept of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

#### Debbie Gibson

I memorized all the songs in her 1989 album. It was almost required for young girls to know the dance steps of Electric Youth, it's like all students were dancing it during events and activities. You were branded uncool if you hardly know Debbie.

#### Menudo

The first boyband I could identify with during my childhood. Yes, people would go loco how cute Ricky Martin is but I had a crush on Charlie Masso. The band was really popular here in the Philippines.

My brother @darthnava introduced me to rock sensations together with his friends. They usually hang out around the house play Nintendo and watch MTV. 

#### Heart

Listening to heart feels like you're in a dream-like state with their _These Dreams_ single. I love their husky voices, so powerful and I was awakened to the facts of life with their song: _All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You_. But if you're a singer and you can belt out the song _Alone_ well, then you have reached the status of one of the best singers in my country.

#### Tears for Fears

The lyrics of their songs have raised awareness and I love the honesty that they bring. Everytime I hear their songs, I can't help but bob my head or move my body and sway with the beats.

I could mention a lot of great music from the 1980s but it would be very long. There are a lot of awesome artists from _*Queen, Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Debarge, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, A-ha, Cutting Crew, Journey, Fra Lippo Lippi*, The Cure_ and so much more, you could lose count.  I'm sure a lot of you have your favorites.

### Movies and TV

#### The Karate Kid 

This movie promotes heroic acts, discipline and forgiveness.  Imitating Daniel san's moves especially the crane technique makes you feel you have the power to defeat your enemies. I couldn't help but gush over Ralph Macchio though.

#### Dirty Dancing

I wish I could do what Jennifer Grey did, seeing the iconic lift by Patrick Swayze is more romantic than what Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet did on Titanic.

#### When Harry Met Sally

Probably my favorite love story of all time. I love that this movie because of the realistic feel and the evolution from friendship to love. The witty dialogues and the performance of the cast led by Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan was outstanding in showcasing this classic romantic comedy.

#### Pretty in Pink

Ordinary girl turning into a Swan are popular in this era. Molly Ringwald is undeniably cute.

#### Night Rider 

One of the TV shows I could never forget and made David Hasselhoff a household name as well as the series was full of action. When you hear the intro music you can't help but feel excited. I think everybody loves Kit and the adventures of beating bad guys was a treat every week on TV.

#### Small Wonder

I hardly miss an episode of Small Wonder. This series is such full of feel good surprises and makes you want to be part of their family.

### Fashion

#### Hairstyles

Although I'm not a fan of hairsprays, I love that the 80s were adventurous in the styling area, just like the hair could be styled in any wave or form. Teasing the hair was popular and the use of lots of hair gel for men.

#### Clothes

Clothes were colorful, designers were not afraid to mix different kinds of colors and fabrics. 80s Fashion meant that you have to stand out, be the unique person you can be. It was cool fashion minus the shoulder pads and neon colors of course.

#### Makeup

The makeup is focused on making the eyes stand out more and blending contrasting colors. Some have even more colorful palette if you're that bold enough.

### Culture

#### Computer Games : The Rise of Nintendo

I remember we had Atari back then and later on purchased Nintendo Family Computer. My brother made me cry because he didn't let me play PacMan. Didn't finish Super Mario though but was good in Circus Charlie...lol. Contra was the most exciting game I played back then.

#### Handwritten Letters

Receiving a handwritten letter from the mail is such a wonderful treat. We don't make love letters like we used to anymore and send cards for any occasion or ordinary days.  Right now, we just send ecards and e-vites. I just love the smell of perfumed stationery and thinking about how the letter has journeyed across seas and planes just to get to it's destination.

#### Board Games

To pass time and have a group get together, board games were very popular in the 80s. My favorite will always be MONOPOLY, although I still like Boggle, Connect Four, and other various adventure board games. Human and close interaction indoors are more fun which is really missing nowadays.

The 1980s was a decade where time didn't move that fast but you were able to spend more time personally with other people. There was a balance between technology and nature.  Children are able to play more outdoors and that people interact more with each other. There are more 80s highlights that are worth noting but overall being able to grow up in that era makes me feel blessed that I was able to experience through it.
