Brave, which was founded by Brendan Eich, purchased an open source search engine called *Tail Cat* developed by a company called *Cliqz*, which had created a search engine, as part of a Browser-Search Engine combination, which featured Anti-Tracking for both the Browser and the search engine.

# Brave Supports privacy and internet liberty

This acquisition is also consistent with Brave Browser’s other efforts to increase privacy ion the internet. Brave’s Browser recently added native support for the Peer-Peer IPFS protocol, which is also known as the InterPlanetary File Systen, to allow peer-to-peer file-sharing, which prevents tech companies and governments from taking down webpages.

#### What is a *No-Tracking* Search Engine?
 
>No-tracking search engines work in a number of different ways. Some of them use Google to search for you - relaying your query through their servers. All Google can see is a number of requests coming from one source, rather than the individual users submitting the requests.

### What is a *Tracking Search Engine* and How does it effect consumers?
 
It means that when you’re logged in to Google and you enter a search into YouTube, Google records it...levery search you make through the Google search engine is noted and saved, all to help Google and other third parties show you better ads.
 
### What No Tracking Search Engines Exist Now?
 
#### DuckDuckGo
>Privacy-minded search results, with no tracking or online profile. DuckDuckGo pulls from a number of open-source and crowdsourced databases, as well as using its own web crawlers. While results might not be quite as accurate or refined as Google, DuckDuckGo keeps you anonymous and does not pass your information on to third-party data brokers.

#### Yahoo! Search

Yahoo! scores better for privacy as well. If you want a longstanding Google alternative that offers more than simple search results, Yahoo! might be the way to go.

#### Startpage

Startpage delivers Google-like results minus the extensive data collection. Based in the Netherlands, Startpage adheres to the notoriously strict Dutch and European privacy standards. Startpage does show ads on its search results pages, though the ads should be generated based on your search query, not on any user-specific profile.

The Cliqz Browser was a Fork of Modzillas Firefox. The search tool features a special software package called *Ghostery anti-tracking tool*, which combines algorithmic and blocklist anti-tracking software strategies. Brave has hired the entire Cliqz development team, led by Dr. Joseph M. Pujol.
