On this day in 2012 we lost one of the greatest female voices ever. Born August 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey was destined by birth to be a singer. Her mother Cissy Houston, her cousin Dionne Warwick and godmother Aretha Franklin were all legends of American Gospel music. From a very young age she was wowing audiences with her voice. At the age of 19 Houston was discovered by the renowned Clive Davis of Arista records while playing at a night club. She was signed immediately by Clive and release her first album in 1985. Houston had 7 studio albums and 2 soundtrack that all made Diamond, multi-platInum, platinum or gold. Houston was a major influence for several African American artists with her prominence on MTV with her hit video “How Will I Know”. Houston holds a Gusiness World Record for most awarded female act of all time. Houston is one of the best selling music artists of all-time, with 200 million records sold worldwide. Houston is also the only artist to chart 7 consecutive #1 Billboard Hot 100 songs. Houston’s acting debut was in the romantic thriller “The Bodyguard” she performed the lead single from the original soundtrack . “I Will Always Love You” which receives a Grammy Award. Houston was in many other films including Waiting to Exhale, How Stella Got Her Groove Back and The Prescher’s Wife. In 1992 Houston married Bobby Brown and in 1993 gave birth to their only child Bobbi Kristina Brown who also passed away in 2015.
