A Must Story To Read!
![hhh.PNG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmS6Q39qm2ppKb42jLXYFe412LktTtSSMBWqJLYayrLsh4/hhh.PNG)

*Consider the following case. A friend confides in you that he has committed a particular crime and you promise never to tell. Discovering that an innocent person has been accused of the crime you plead with your friend to give himself up. He refuses and reminds you of your promise.*
What should you do? This essay will elaborate on my reasons for my choice of actions and why my choice of actions should be considered the best available moral choice over any other choice.
*First of all, I would advise my friend to give in because of the kind of society we find ourselves in and also due to my personal interest. Morality refers to an adopted code of conduct within an environment and a set of agreed upon rules for what is right or wrong. Under morality we have (2) two types of morality which is the ethical/moral relativism and moral universalism or objectivism. Also, under the ethical relativism we have a) ethical egoism/individual relativism/ethical subjectivism b) cultural relativism*.

*An action is morally right if it promotes a person’s self-interest and my personal interest here is I cannot watch an innocent person suffer or pay for something which he has not done. If it was the fact that, after he confiding in me, they did not find another person to be guilty of an offence he did not commit that would have been understandable. But in this case an innocent person is going to be the one to suffer for a crime he did not commit morally it is not right and even the society around us does not accept such acts*.

*Also, I know if my friend was to be in the other persons shoes, he would like justice to be revealed and he o be set free. The society would also want the same actions to be done such a way they could all live in peace and harmony. My friend not telling the truth can cause so much ciaos and problems which would end up bringing fear and insecurity amongst the people in the society. Therefore my personal interest here is i would rather choke my friends for justice to be served*.
*Again, another reason why I would give in my friend is because of the kind of religion I am involved in. The divine command theory is one of the theories under the moral standard. An innocent person is going to be punished because of something he did not do and that is where my main focus and that is why my religion does not allow me to do. As a Christian, my God tells me or the holy book teaches us to do the right thing and when we know the right thing and we refuse to do it, it is a sin and me knowing that an innocent brother is going to suffer for something he did not do ,whiles when I say this to testify to it he would be set free and that is what my religion teaches me and also it teaches me to help a brother in need and if upon knowing all this I refuse to say the truth then it is a sin. I cannot be living in guilt because of this too and also that is the aspect of my religion that is making me want to give my brother in. This reason of mine can be linked up to the demand command theory which is defined as the moral theory that holds that what is right is whatever God commands*.

Also, good actions are aligned with the will of a divinity and bad actions are contrary to its will and because of how high I uphold my God I decide to obey him in my actions and so I believe that, this is another reason why I believe that any other person who upholds a divinity should make a decision to make it right with the divinity rather than upholding selfish interest which includes disobeying your God which would serve as a punishment to you.
*Also, Utilitarianism is a demanding moral position that often asks us o put aside self-interest for the sake of the whole. Also, its rule is that action are right if and only if it conforms to a set of rules which is in line with the general acceptance of what would produce the greatest balance of pleasure over pain for the greatest number and its act is when an action is right if and only if it produces for the greatest balance of pleasure over pain for the greatest number .In this case, it often demands that we put aside our self-interest and even our own principles*.

The utilitarian theory makes it clear that in a society the greatest number of view count more than one view .in this case even if five out of ten people do not want my friend imprisoned it would not be considered because majority carries the vote and things are done to favor the majority.
*In Conclusion, Kant’s deontology and his different kinds of golden rules in other religions can also serve as a factor in solving this problem. Immanuel Kant believes that, we should do our duty purely out of the good will, not do our duty purely out of the good will not because of rewards or punishment or other consequences. Kant’s categorical imperative putting the two formulations together gives us the principle of duty which is we universalizing our actions meaning we should do things that we wish everyone else in the world would do too. He also said we should not take advantage of other people to get what we want. This is seen in our religious life as the GOLDEN RULE implies in Mathew 7:1 that “All things whatsoever ye would take that men should do to you do ye so to them; for this is the law and the Prophets*”. ***Basically all is saying is that we should not watch an innocent person go to jail because of our friends deeds but rather vice versa***.
*Alternative perspective can be given on issues like this. Another person may see it from another perspective and say they disagree to this because in a way, if I claim I am a Christian and after my friend confiding in me why then do I expose the truth after that. Philosophy itself does not have a fixed definition so as people would have different alternative answers on concerning this issue*.

***The story stated above gives a vivid explanation on the moral theories and as to why I would give my friend in***.
